Automobiles in Germany's City Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Officers stated they were contacted by a resident who found a car in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then discovered many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior representative said the vandalism left him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
